Dunmore House wins the Memorable Experience award at the Georgina Campbell Awards 2023

media release

Dunmore House wins the Memorable Experience award at

the Georgina Campbell Awards 2023

Dunmore House has won this year's Memorable Experience award at the Georgina Campbell Awards 2023. The independent Georgina Campbell Awards, Ireland's longest-running food & hospitality awards, celebrated 25 years this year and took place on Tuesday 10th October in Dublin.

The Georgina Campbell Guide is a family-run, hospitality guide, her awards are compiled based on anonymous visits, and this year focused particularly on “genuine hospitality, consistency, innovation and good value”.

Speaking after the ceremony Peter Barrett, General Manager at Dunmore House said, "We are thrilled with this award. It's a huge honour, and testament to our team who work so hard to create memorable experiences for all of our guests, so I'm really just accepting this award on their behalf and I'm delighted to do so."

Writing about Dunmore House, Ms Campbell said "The wonderful location is the biggest USP of course, but there’s plenty else to keep you here. Everything is always immaculate yet homely and the dining experience is outstanding in a lovely low-key way. Delicious home produce, just in from the clifftop gardens (really worth visiting) is cooked with finesse but allowed to be itself – a simple pleasure on a recent visit was a gorgeous side, a bowl of boiled potatoes which, we all agreed, were ‘a treat just like sweets’. And why are potatoes like this so rare now? All round, a highlight of our year. And it’s pet friendly too."

Perfectly nestled into its picturesque setting overlooking the water, against the stunning backdrop of Clonakilty Bay, Dunmore House is the perfect place to make memorable experiences with breezy Atlantic walks, great food in the Michelin recommended Adrift restaurant, beautiful beaches and handsome gardens. For booking please call 023 883 3352.

Adrift Restaurant at Dunmore House noticed once more by the prestigious Michelin Guide

press release

Adrift Restaurant at Dunmore House noticed once more by the prestigious Michelin Guide

Added to the Michelin Guide in 2022, Adrift at Dunmore House is a jewel in the west Cork crown with foodies coming to this family-owned and managed seaside property from all corners of the country. No surprise then that Michelin has added Adrift to their latest Best of Guide celebrating The Best Seafood Restaurants in the Republic of Ireland.

Speaking about this latest release from the Michelin Guide, owner of Dunmore House, Carol Barrett said, “This is brilliant news for everyone here at Dunmore, especially our exceptional kitchen team. We celebrate this inclusion with our amazing suppliers, Glenmar Seafoods, too who bring the freshest fish to us daily! Our diners love to enjoy simple, tasty seafood while overlooking the lovely view across Clonakilty Bay. As a family we believe strongly in using what is local and available so seafood is a must. It’s fantastic to be one of just six restaurants in Ireland to make the list.”

Writing about Adrift, the Michelin editors noted, “Locally sourced fish and shellfish power the menu at this family-run restaurant, which features the likes of John Dory, scallops and West Cork mackerel. It sits inside the Dunmore House Hotel and offers stunning views across Clonakilty Bay, ensuring that a window table is always much sought after. There’s a bright and airy feel to the dining room, which fits nicely with the coastal vistas and tasty, unfussy cooking. Dishes often make use of the hotel’s organic kitchen garden; keep an eye out for the famous local black pudding too.”

Adrift is a beautiful space seating 40 guests with sweeping views across Clonakilty Bay. The menus change regularly and feature some of the best produce in the area with a focus on seafood from nearby Union Hall cooked simply– guests can expect poached lobster, John Dory, cod bouillabaisse and black sole on the bone, not to mention house black pudding, handmade ricotta and nettle ravioli. Included in the Michelin Guide UK & Ireland 2023, Adrift is open five days a week from 6.30pm – 8.30pm.

Adrift at Dunmore House honoured at prestigious Food & Wine Restaurant of the Year Awards

Adrift at Dunmore House honoured at prestigious Food & Wine Restaurant of the Year Awards

There were double celebrations for the family owned and run Dunmore House in Clonakilty this weekend as Adrift, the fine dining restaurant at the 30 bedroom hotel, was announced as Highly Commended Hotel Restaurant of the Year on the same day that owner Carol Barrett celebrated her birthday.

Now in their fourth generation at the beautiful seaside property, Carol’s mother Mary O’Donovan accepted the award with members of the team on Sunday 6th November at The Round Room at The Mansion House in Dublin, with 450 guests celebrating the best of Irish food and drink in a sold-out event hosted by Food&Wine editor Gillian Nelis. Adrift was keeping very good company as the Michelin starred Oak Room at Adare was named overall Hotel Restaurant of the Year on the day.

Speaking about the award, Carol Barrett said, “We are completely thrilled with this award from Food&Wine, to know that we were nominated by guests and then judged by some of the best food writers, influencers, chefs and industry experts and to be acknowledged in this way is such a joy for us as a family and for our whole team who make this happen. I was equally as thrilled for my mother Mary, and thoughtful of my dad Derry whose parents started Dunmore, to be able to accept this award – we wouldn’t be here without her and we strive every day to maintain her standards.

Carol’s son and General Manager at Dunmore House, Peter Barrett added, “It’s a great honour to receive this recognition for Adrift, the whole team at Dunmore care deeply about what’s served on each plate, the experience of every guest that comes through the door and maintaining that sense of genuine Irish hospitality that started with my great-grandparents and hopefully will continue at Dunmore for generations to come.”
