Quiet morning on the terrace

 A Comfortable Stay

The hotel's 39 spacious and comfortable rooms provide a relaxing retreat after a day of exploring. Our room had all the mod cons and an impressive bathroom (with a separate bath and shower). It is in a prime location and has excellent amenities; the Lord Bagenal Inn is the perfect base for your County Carlow adventure.

Good morning sunshine!

During the recent visit, we got to see and experience those mountains close-up, the old monastic village of St Mullins, along with its charming hideaway Mullicháin Café, the jaw-dropping ruins of Duckett's Grove, the authentic Thai dining at Baht, The “Lifestyle Experience” at Arboretum's Flagship store plus visiting some of the lovely riverside villages. If you want to, you’ll find it very easy to reach neighbouring counties such as Kilkenny, Laois, Wexford and Wicklow.

Pancakes and fruit for breakfast

The hotel’s dining room seems very popular, as it was packed on the Tuesday night we called. The choices are good, too, and we enjoyed our Roast Duck (with Stir-Fried Vegetables and Basmati Rice) and Lord Bagenal Chicken Curry (Steamed Rice and Poppadum).

We were well fed at breakfast each morning in the Waterside Restaurant, which overlooks the river and can recommend the super fruit-laden Pancakes and the rustic-looking but ever so  tasty French Toast.

Welcome Inn

Lots of impressive art
in the Inn, including
this Knuttle
.

The medium-sized hotel, with plenty of parking, has been built around the original bar (which has still has an entrance from the main street). A spacious marbled foyer has a raised seating area and an unusual circular stairway with toughened glass steps—and, as elsewhere in the hotel, it is enhanced by artwork from the hotel’s fine collection.

With its prime location and excellent amenities, the Inn is a superb base for your County Carlow adventure. Discover the Magic of the county with its rich history, stunning landscapes, and warm hospitality. County Carlow is a hidden gem waiting to be explored—this was our first visit and won’t be our last. We can heartily recommend the county and The Lord Bagenal Inn (the ideal starting point for your journey of discovery).
