An easy-drinking Tejo treasure!
Looking for a Portuguese red that won't break the bank? Look no further than Quinta Da
Ribeirinha's Vale de Cabanas. This easy-drinking blend packs a punch without the hefty price tag.
A vibrant ruby hue sets the scene for this medium-bodied charmer. Expect juicy plum notes and a touch of spice on the palate, all wrapped up in a smooth, satisfying finish.
This versatile wine pairs perfectly with a range of dishes, from grilled meats to hearty cheeses. The producers suggest white meat and pasta, while we're dreaming of a juicy rump steak or a classic cheeseboard.
At just €10 (down from €13!), this is a steal of a wine and is Highly Recommended. So why not treat yourself to a taste of Portugal?
Geek Bits
The Tejo region is where this wine hails from. It's a lesser-known area of Portugal that's rapidly gaining recognition for its quality wines. You'll find it in central Portugal, just northeast of Lisbon, and the area is split by the longest river on the peninsula, the Tejo (known to Irish secondary school students in the 60s as the Tagus).
The Blend: As is often the case with Portuguese red wines, this Val de Cabanas is a blend. The constituent grapes are Trincadeira 20%, Cabernet Sauvignon 20% and Aragonez 60%.
Aragonez, the main grape in the blend, is what the Portuguese in this area call our old friend Tempranillo. In other regions in Portugal, the Dao and the Douro, it is known as Tinta Roriz.
