On the Craft Trail with Rye River's "little summer zipper", Rascals' "crisp & crushable" and Third Barrel's "absolute banger"

On Craft Trail with Rye River's "little summer zipper", Rascals' "crisp & crushable" and Third Barrel's "absolute banger"

Rye River Intergalactic Yuzu Citrus Sour, 3.9% ABV, 440 ml can Carry Out St Luke’s

“A little summer zipper”

Rye River compare this Gose to a “fresh

margarita”. Colour is mid-gold with a soft white head and a posse of bubbles galloping upwards. Citrus heads up the aromatics and is prominent in the tart mouthful right through to slightly salty finale. Quite a refreshing thirst quencher. Highly Recommended

The Intergalactic Yuzu is a seasonal small-batch beer made in collaboration with Yeastie Boys and includes Yuzu, Sudachi, Lime, and Mandarin. No shortage of cirtus there. The fermentation with Helveticus and dry English Ale Yeast encourages even more tartness. Hops are Tradition while malts used are Barley and Wheat.

This is the fourth beer in Rye River’s #tenbeersfortenyears series, a beer they first brewed with @ukyeastieboys in 2020. Rye have declared themselves very happy with the current iteration calling it their “little summer zipper”. Happy Anniversary Rye!

Rascals Jailbreak Lager, 4.2% ABV, 440 ml can Bradleys

Proper German Helles lager, crisp and crushable

This gold coloured lager, made in the Helles style, has no shortage of bubbles and a soft white head that hangs around a bit. Aromas are herbal and pine with a good input of citrus.

As you’d expect from the Mittlefruh hops, widely used in American and European lagers, it’s wholly refreshing, crisp and clean with a very satisfactory finish indeed.

A superbly balanced lager, one of their core range, it is great for a session and pairs well with pizza. Now where would you get a pizza to go with it? Rascals have the answer: “In Inchicore, Dublin, we’ve a world class pizza restaurant with the freshest beer pouring straight from tank to tap.”

You can check the brewery and its beers, the taproom, its tour and event spaces at www.rascalsbrewing.com.  The lager is Highly Recommended.

Geek Bits

Malts: Bohemian Pilsner, Vienna, Melanoidin

Hops: Mittlefruh

Yeast: Munich Helles

ABV: 4.2%

Third Barrel Hu$h Money IPA, 5.9% ABV, 440 ml can Bradleys

Strata, Galaxy and Cryo Pop in an absolute BANGER!

Third Barrel’s Hu$h Money IPA is packed with flavour from the hefty amounts of American and Australian hops used. The beer is well-balanced and aromatic, mostly sweet fruit (mango and pineapple included). No shortage of tropical flavours either on the palate but the balance is good, no need to worry (as I did) about it being oversweet. Not really my favourite style but well made and Highly Recommended.

Hops used are: Cryo Strata. Cryo Pop & Galaxy
