BRAVO JACQUES

BRAVO JACQUES

Jacques  claim to be the city’s longest established restaurant and they do the simple things superbly.  Here they serve great food and they serve it well and the customers keep on coming.

It was full last Saturday night. But they are used to full houses, well capable of handling the demands, the confidence built through the last three decades or so.

We were welcomed with a smile and soon seated and all the staff we met were friendly and efficient and all interaction was carried through with good humour.

That care for the customer runs through the establishment. We ordered their Rack of Baby Easter Lamb with a soft herb crust and a sprouting broccoli (€28.90). After the expected “delay”,
filled by nibbling some nice breads and sipping a glass of house wine (A Syrah/Grenache blend, €6.50), the lamb was delivered, cooked as requested.

This was quite a simple dish but really well balanced and a superb main course. The dessert was also notable, one I hadn’t come across before:  Roast Plums with a Hazelnut crumble and ice cream (€7.90).  I had been tempted by the Oranges & Dates stuffed with Mascarpone and Passionfruit but had no regrets in the end as the plums were a real treat.

The meal, for two, cost a €100.00 more or less with tip but you can try Jacques out for just €25.00 a head as that is the price of their recommended Early Bird. But you will miss out on the Roast Plums!
